Belostoma popularly known as the ‘Giant water bug’.

Fresh water, predatory, carnivores insect, inhabiting the muddy or weedy bottom of ponds.

Body is flat, broad and brownish and covered by leathery exoskeleton.

Body is divided into Head, thorax and Abdomen.

Eyes are prominent.

Thorax has three pairs of legs and two pairs of wings.

Wings are well developed.

Between the bases of wings is a triangular shield, called Scutellum.

Female possess well developed Ovipositor.
