Murex has a long spire that is ornamented with elaborate spiny out growths.

Body whorl and shell mouth may be drawn into a long spout known as Siphon canal.

Head consists of cephalic tentacle and well developed eyes.

Osphradium bipectinate.

Feed on bivalves with the help of suction pad.

Egg capsules are deposited separately or in clusters.
