Its shell is covered completely (internally) by mantle.

Sepia has an in sac opening in its rectum.

A distinct foot is absent.

Body has two divisions - Head and trunk.

Trunk is covered by a thick and leathery mantle.

With the help of the ink this animal can discolour the surrounding water to escape from enemies.

Skin is markable for its extra ordinary colour change.

Two long tentacular arms with suckers.
