Frog : Urostyle
• Urostyle is the terminal position of the vertebral column.
• It represents the fused tail vertebra of the larva.
• It is a long, flat and terminally tapering bone.
• Dorsally, it has a longitudinal ridge or crest, formed by the fusion of the neural spine of the larval tail vertebra.
• This contains a canal called canalis vertebralis which lodges filum terminale (tip of the spinal cord).
• Anteriorly urostyle has two articular depressions or concavities for accommodating the posterior knobs of 9th vertebra.
