Rabbit : Pelvic girdle
• Pelvic girdle on each side is formed of a compound bone called os – innominatum.
• Formed by the fusion of 3 bones – ilium, ischium and pubis.
• In between pubis and ischium is a wide space called obturator foramen.
• At the junction of three, outer side is a deep socket called acetabulum.
• The head of femur fits into this to form the hip joint.
• On the ventral margin of acetabulum is a small accessory bone called acetabular or cotyloid bone.
• Ilium is a large and broad bone; ischium is also a broad one.
