Rabbit : Pelvic girdle

Pelvic girdle on each side is formed of a compound bone called os – innominatum.

Formed by the fusion of 3 bones – ilium, ischium and pubis.

In between pubis and ischium is a wide space called obturator foramen.

At the junction of three, outer side is a deep socket called acetabulum.

The head of femur fits into this to form the hip joint.

On the ventral margin of acetabulum is a small accessory bone called acetabular or cotyloid bone.

Ilium is a large and broad bone; ischium is also a broad one.
