Chiton is sedimentary or slow moving marine mollusk.

Body is bilaterally symmetrical, dorso ventrally flattened and roughly ovoid.

Body is divisible into Head, Visceral mass and foot.

Head indistinct without eyes and tentacle.

Foot is broad and flat ventral side – adhesion and creeping.

Mouth and anus are ventral at opposite ends.

Body covered dorsally by a thick, stiff and leathery mantle.

Sexes are separate.

Usually negative phototrophic.

Mantle secretes dorsal shell, composed of 8 ringed or moveably articulated and overlapping transverse plates called Shell plates.
