• Body is bilaterally symmetrical, dorso ventrally flattened and roughly ovoid.
• Body is divisible into Head, Visceral mass and foot.
• Head indistinct without eyes and tentacle.
• Foot is broad and flat ventral side – adhesion and creeping.
• Mouth and anus are ventral at opposite ends.
• Body covered dorsally by a thick, stiff and leathery mantle.
• Sexes are separate.
• Usually negative phototrophic.
• Mantle secretes dorsal shell, composed of 8 ringed or moveably articulated and overlapping transverse plates called Shell plates.
