When a customer uses Apple Pay to purchase goods, the last 4 digits that appear on the receipt will be different to the last 4 digits on the customer’s physical card.
For security, Apple create a ‘virtual’ card number, otherwise known as the Device Account Number, and this is the last 4 digits that you’ll see on the receipt.
If you’re searching for a transaction where the customer no longer has the receipt but has confirmed that they paid using Apple Pay, you can search for the original transaction using the last 4 digits of the Device Account Number (not the last 4 digits on the customer’s physical card).
Please follow the steps below identify the last 4 digits of the Device Account Number.
Ask the customer to open settings on their phone. Go to “Wallet & Apple Pay”.
Click on the arrow to the right of the payment card.
On this page it will display the Card Number and the Device Account Number.
The Card Number shows the last 4 digits of the customer’s physical card.
The Device Account Number displays a unique last 4 digit number. These are the last 4 digits that will show on the receipt and these are the last 4 digits that you should use to search for the original transaction.
