During the course of planning and scheduling maintenance work activities, it may be necessary to use contractors to perform the work. This is referred to as Contractual work, when using UDOT forces it is referred to as Non-Contractual work.
Maintenance projects identified as needing contractor assistance requires the maintenance station work with the Region Contract Specialist to identify possible contracts to complete the work. Information about contracts is addressed in Chapter 17 Procurement. Read and understand the contract scope which will include information on pricing, items of work, how to contact and select the contractor(s) to perform the work, and how to document and pay for work. Most procurement contracts reference the latest edition of UDOT Standard Specifications and Drawings which will need to be followed. Documentation and testing is the responsibility of UDOT unless exclusively addressed within the contract. Identify which maintenance personnel will be responsible to inspect, document, and potentially test work performed by the contractor. Working with the contractor to agree on the daily quantities will help to resolve any potential issues regarding invoicing and payment.
