UDOT Maintenance is tasked with maintaining the transportation system in a state of good repair. Maintenance forces are typically the first line of defense in preserving, making repairs or replacing elements/assets that are critical to the performance of the transportation system.
As discussed previously, UDOT is made up of four Regions, each region has similarities along with unique differences that may require the need for specialized maintenance crews.
UDOT Maintenance has created specialty crews that have technical expertise and possess specialized equipment to manage and address critical assets. The department benefits from having specialized crews that can quickly mobilize and take the appropriate action to protect and preserve the transportation system.
This chapter will explain the roles and responsibilities of the Speciality Crews, how they are organized inside the Regions, and how they differ from a traditional/typical maintenance station. Each Region has the ability to structure and organize their maintenance crews to address the specific needs of their regions. The regions may form specialty crews when the needs arise and pull members from multiple maintenance stations to form a speciality crew. This chapter will provide a general overview of the specialty crews being aware that their responsibilities may change from region to region.
