The goal of this chapter is to provide maintenance staff and personnel direction and guidance when it comes to communicating and interacting with the public, the media, social media as well as other internal Divisions within UDOT. UDOT employees are regularly approached by the public and the media to provide information and/or updates on road conditions or issues. It is imperative to remember that all communications with entities outside of UDOT need to be discussed and overseen by the Region or Central Communications group. The Communications Division is responsible for interaction and messaging to the media and oversees all information provided through social media. If at any time you are approached by the public and media, be polite and refer them to the communications group. There may be opportunities when the Communications group will prepare and coach individuals from Maintenance to speak directly with the media.
