This chapter will include an explanation of the various types of funding requests, the timeline for developing and submitting these requests, and examples of the information that can help support the request for additional funding. It is important to note that all funding requests must follow the process as outline in Utah Code Section 63 (see link below):
Funding is needed to continually maintain the transportation system in a state of good repair. The goals of this chapter are to provide specific direction for the submittal of funding requests and answer the following questions: .
What are the types of funding requests?
What is the timeline for submitting funding requests,
What is needed for the approval process?
Funding requests are an important aspect of business within UDOT (Department); over time the costs of goods and services increase. Funding requests give the Department the opportunity to request additional funds from the legislature or move funds within the Department to areas of greater need. The overall goal is to maintain the transportation system in a state of good repair. Maintenance needs to be aware of the funding request process, timeline, and personnel to coordinate with when submitting funding requests.
In Chapter 15: Budget Development Process, budget requests were discussed, but in terms of how they may impact the budgets of central maintenance, the region, or a particular maintenance station. Examples were provided to add clarity on the types of budget requests, such as line item transfer requests. This chapter will discuss the processes, timelines, and evaluation of the different kinds of budget requests and provide examples.
