UDOT Maintenance employees are asked to carry out a number of activities and tasks throughout the day. Maintenance employees should be developing a work plan as items or activities are identified that need to be addressed. Being proactive and formulating a work plan assists maintenance forces in being prepared when opportunities arise to include items within construction projects, or get ahead of potential problems before they cost additional dollars and impact the traveling public for extended periods of time. Knowing the condition of the roadways along with the timing of when construction projects are set to begin allow maintenance forces to use their resources more efficiently.
Coordinating and teaming with neighboring maintenance stations is becoming a common practice as maintenance crews look for ways to accomplish their work plans. This also provides an opportunity for maintenance crews to learn from each other and grow and expand their knowledge base.
