Fleet Operations manages the State of Utah’s fuel network, which provides access to more than 125 state-owned fuel sites in Utah and currently uses WEX fuel cards providing over 1500 retail locations across the state. The state’s fuel contracts make savings available to state and federal government agencies, including cities, counties, and school districts to provide safe, convenient, and cost effective fueling. Fuel costs at state-operated facilities are always a fixed rate-based fuel network purchase price; operators are encouraged to use these state-operated facilities first whenever possible to pass on cost savings to the state.
Fleet- and UDOT-owned vehicles are issued a fueling card. Each card has been programmed with preset limits, allowed fuel types, and purchase quantity. Employees who have been identified by their supervisor as having the authority to operate a state vehicle on the agency’s behalf are required to request an “Operator ID/Employee Identification Number (EIN)” for authorizing fuel card usage. Once the employee’s ID number is created, a fuel PIN number is issued to that employee. The fuel PIN request form can be found by the employee logging onto the UDOT website under employee resources or filling out the request form and returning to UDOT Equipment Operations. The fuel PIN number should never be shared with another employee. In the event a problem occurs when using a fuel card or a fuel card is misplaced, please contact UDOT Equipment Operations as soon as possible. Each state vehicle is allowed a maximum limit per month for car wash services at an authorized vendor location. There are other options for cleaning state vehicles that require prior approval. The state of Utah’s fuel network is responsible for the maintenance of all state-owned underground storage tanks, ensuring all federal, state, and local laws/regulations are complied with. The inspections that are performed by the state of Utah fuel network are required to be on-file at the maintenance station.
