UDOT Snow Plow and Equipment Simulators
The learning group has purchased equipment simulators where operators can test and refine their skills. These simulators are meant to provide the user/operator opportunities to use various pieces of equipment and become familiar with the controls and operations without actually being in the equipment.

How to Register - Snow Plow/ Equipment Simulators -
Currently UDOT contracts with L3 Harris, who provides (2-Snow Plow Simulators) all new hires are automatically registered through (onboarding) to receive up to four hours of training on the snow plow simulator. This snow plow simulator training occurs during the fall and early winter and is coordinated between the region trainer and UDOT central training manager. The plow course covers different environments (freeway, urban, rural, secondary roads, ice, materials, brine) to help identify which method works best.
Refresher courses are available upon request through the region trainer, who registers time on the simulators for the region employees. There is also a tow plow training simulation that provides new operators with an opportunity to become familiar with the tow plow trailer controls.
UDOT owns heavy equipment simulators. The Universal Control System switches between CAT and John Deere controls. These training simulators are available for employees to test and refine their skills and are scheduled/coordinated through the trainers.
