This chapter provides information regarding the goals and objectives of the Maintenance Management System (MMS) that is used by UDOT Maintenance and Construction forces. UDOT’s current Maintenance Management software program is known as ATOM. This chapter does not provide the reader with a guide on how to use the ATOM system, as that information is provided within the ATOM users manual and will be linked as a reference. The aim of this chapter is to describe the benefits the UDOT maintenance and construction forces receive from implementing a maintenance management system and how maintenance supports the overall asset management plan for the Department.
The Maintenance Management System effectively manages maintenance and construction resources, thereby allowing personnel to focus on tasks/activities that provide the greatest benefit to the transportation system. The Maintenance Management System supports each element of UDOT’s Strategic Goals: 1) Zero Crashes, Injuries, and Fatalities, 2) Optimize Mobility, and 3) Preserving Infrastructure.
The Maintenance Management System collects the data that is used to produce the outcome of the UDOT’s Maintenance Level of Service . The Asset and Activity Handbook (linked below) is a guidebook to define how maintenance is to manage and report the work they have performed on their assets.
