HEAD TEACHER'S NEWSLETTER
Another busy week of SQA assessments including Music and Drama performances, as well as preparation for next week’s Practical Cookery exams was capped by today’s dress down and a bake sale for Red Nose Day.
Well done to Eva Hills, Head Pupil, and the Senior Personal Development Award class for organising this and making jewellery to sell at break time.

Staff
Congratulations to Ms Dudley who has been appointed to the permanent post of Modern Studies and Geography teacher. Ms Dudley has held the post on a temporary basis for the past year so it is a pleasure to have her join the team permanently.
Attendance
A reminder that full attendance in all classes is expected from all senior pupils in these last two weeks of term and the week after the Easter holidays.
This is a critical point in the year to complete SQA assessments that are run in school by staff on the SQA’s behalf and then sent to the SQA to mark, forming a significant part of the final award. If these exams are missed then there are no resit opportunities.
S2 Dynamic Earth trip
Pupils from 2m2 and 2g1 discovered lots of fascinating facts about the earth, its ecosystems and varying landscapes on their trip to Dynamic Earth last Wednesday 6th March. We had a talk from an Astronomer who described in detail how astronauts journey through space, in lunar modules, to the moon. This was followed by a super volcano workshop where we learnt what would happen if Yellowstone were to erupt!
This trip reinforces classroom learning on our current Geography topic of Restless Earth. Pupils were a credit to the school with the majority of feedback being “I wish we could have stayed longer”!
The rest of the S2 year group (2g2, 2c1 and 2c2) will be going to Dynamic Earth next week, on Thursday 21st March.
Thank you to Miss. Nisbet, Miss Ferguson, Mrs Elder and Mr Jordan for accompanying us.
Drama Showcase Evening
It is a very busy and exciting time for Drama in MGS.
National 5, Higher and Advanced Higher Drama Practical Exams are all taking place this week.
This is 60% of the pupil’s final mark. It never seems fair that only a small audience gets to see these performances therefore we are going to do it all again in celebration of pupil work.
We will celebrate the success of the pupils by putting on a Drama showcase evening on Wednesday 20th March at 6.30pm in the school hall. Parents, Guardians and peers are all invited!
These performances will showcase the progression from National 5, through Higher and finally the Advanced Higher Drama students. Please come and be entertained, through tears and laughter.
The performances will be from scripted plays including Lovers by Brian Friel, The Importance of Being Ernest by Oscar Wilde, Orphans by Dennis Kelly, Britannia Rules by Liz Lochhead, Tally’s Blood By Ann Marie di Mambro, Dead Dad Dog by John McKay, The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie by Muriel Spark.
They are truly fantastic and I am very proud of all involved!
See you all Wednesday evening for an absolute treat! What a great way to celebrate success!

Achieve and Succeed
I hope that N5 and Higher pupils are finding the online resource Achieve Achieve (hashtag-learning.co.uk useful in their preparation for SQA exams. All students now have access to SUCCEED which is included in the Achieve package.
What is SUCCEED?
SUCCEED is an innovative learning and revision toolkit designed to enhance study skills, exam techniques, motivation, and student well-being. It offers a comprehensive suite of tools and resources, including:
Learning Guides: Improve understanding of study strategies, exam preparation, target setting and much more

Flashcards: Boost understanding and memory with customisable flashcards

Students can access SUCCEED by clicking the button found in the upper right-hand corner on ACHIEVE. Teachers will find a similar button labelled "More #".
If you need help accessing Succeed, comprehensive support guides are available within SUCCEED. Access the 'Help' menu for in-depth information.
If your subject doesn't have any Flashcards, new Flashcards are being added every day with the aim of supporting all ACHIEVE courses by Easter.
Tickets are now available to purchase with online school payments. There is limited availability so be quick to avoid disappointment.
MGS Website
We're currently working on our new school website and will be communicating with parents about this very soon. Some areas are still 'under construction', but if you want a sneak peek, you can access it via this link for now.
Welcome to another edition of the ‘The Wrap Up, with Charlie & Eva’. There have been lots of exciting things happening this week!
This week the drama and music exams were held. We are sure everyone performed brilliantly, and that you are all relieved they are over. On Wednesday the 20th of March, there will be an opportunity for people to go and see the N5/Higher & Advanced higher drama pieces being performed, so if you would like to come along you are more than welcome.
There are lots of Deadlines, especially for this Friday. Please make sure you are keeping on top of them, as a lot of course work needs to be sent off to the SQA.
On Friday there was a bake sale in aid of Comic Relief. We will hopefully find out how much was made soon. Thank you to everyone who got involved in donating money and to those who baked cakes. We would like to say a massive thank you to the lovely Dinner Staff who baked some tasty treats for the sale, it was a massive help from them.
There isn't long until the S6’s leave school, (14 days of school to be exact). This is an exciting time, however it is quite upsetting, especially to leave school after being here for so long. It is important to understand that it is ok to feel sad about leaving school. Throughout the past 6 years we have made lots of friends, built relationships with our teachers and overall had a great time, but it is definitely not the end, this is just the beginning and so there are lots of great things to come after school. However, if you are dealing with anxiety about leaving, your teachers are happy to help support you, as well as the Guidance team.
We hope you have a great weekend!
