HEAD TEACHER'S NEWSLETTER
It’s beginning to feel alot like Christmas! Between last Saturday’s vibrant Christmas Fayre and the Christmas Concert on Thursday night, it’s been a lovely way to end the week and get us all in the festive spirit. What an honour and privilege it is to be the Headteacher of such talented pupils, dedicated staff and supportive community.
Jodie Hannan

Staffing:
Congratulations to Mr Mackay, PT Mathematics who has secured an appointment in another school. He leaves us mid February and his post will be advertised upon our return to school in January.
Congratulations also to Mr Lynch, Teacher of Computing, who has been appointed to a Computing post in Edinburgh after 17 years at MGS.
We wish them both the best in their new schools.
Snow Ball:
The S5 and 6 Christmas Dance is on Monday evening, and although I am sure it will be as smooth running as previous senior social events, this is a reminder to all pupils and parents/ carers that alcohol is prohibited. It must not be consumed before the event nor brought into school, nor any consumed in school grounds. Pupils’ bags will be checked upon arrival and parents asked to collect their child if they are found to have consumed alcohol or have brought it into school.
Kayla and Rory's Weekly Rundown
Hi, and welcome back to our weekly run down. We wanted to start by wishing everyone a very Merry Christmas, as this is our last newsletter before we break up. This week we had the fantastic Christmas Concert on Thursday - well done to everyone who took part! As a reminder we wanted to say that the S5 and Snow Ball is on Monday 7-9pm at school.
This week we went along to the Parent Council and as per usual it was great to catch up and see what they are doing. We've also had our prefect and head team rota running for a few weeks now and we hope everyone is getting used to seeing them around.
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Christmas Concert
Musselburgh Grammar School pupils celebrated the end of the year with a sold out Christmas Concert. Over 350 friends and family turned up to support the young performers. Performances on the night ranged from Bagpipes and Wind Bands to Choirs and Rock Bands. The groups that performed on the night were a mixture of teacher- and pupil-led ensembles. We were also delighted to welcome Primary 5-7 pupils from Stoneyhill, Campie, Loretto RC and Pinkie Primary Schools who performed a brilliant rendition of ‘Frosty the Snowman.’ It is thrilling to see pupils who will be part of MGS in the coming years! For many of our pupils, the concert was their first ever live performance, and they all performed with pride and confidence resulting in a fantastic concert they should all be proud of. The MGS Music Team couldn’t have done it without the help of our wonderful school and community.
Christmas Door Decorating Competition
Hohoho! Another year over, a new one just about to begin. It is not Christmas at MGS without our Christmas Doors which brighten up our corridors every year. A massive thank you to all staff and pupils who put in so much effort this year, with excellent Christmas Doors which had so much variety this year! Pictures of all doors within the school are on Mrs McElhaney’s twitter: @MrsMcelhaneyMGS
However, not everyone can be a winner and I’m pleased to announce the top 3 doors, as picked by 2 of our Head Pupils, Orla and Jamie.
First Place: Mrs Orsi
Second Place: Mrs Donnelly
Third Place: Mr Jarvie
Christmas Fayre
The Business Education and Computing Teachers would like to congratulate all S1 Digital Enterprise and all S3 Business Management pupils who committed to the Fayre and made a great profit through selling products that were made. We are all very proud of the maturity and entrepreneurship that you showed. A huge thank you and well done to all school groups who contributed to the success of the Fayre. With almost 100 stalls it made for a busy but successful morning.
We would also like to thank all parents/carers and members or the community who came to the Fayre and showed support to the pupils.
Burgh Baristas
Burgh Baristas were selling hot drinks and mince pies at the Christmas Fayre on Saturday and would like to thank everyone for their support and lovely feedback on Barista skills! “Lovely flat white’s and yummy hot chocolates'' were the most sought after drinks of the day! Our most profitable event yet! Mrs McElhaney and Miss Andrew would like to thank Alix, Suky and Linda for being our Baristas at the Fayre, well done! Our next Burgh Barista event will be the Curriculum Evening on Thursday 5th January. We will be selling a full menu of drinks, but please bring cash as we cannot accept cards.
Design & Technology Department News
The Design and Technology department took advantage of an invitation to tour the new Wallyford Learning Campus on Tuesday 13th along with the Higher and Advanced Higher Graphic Communication students. Mr Thomson, Miss Watson and Mr Mells joined the group and were taken through a visual presentation and tour of the building by employees of JMarchitects and Morrison construction. This was a great opportunity and one that gave the Graphic Communication students an insight into where Graphic Communication leads in terms of careers and potential pathways.
Modern Languages Careers Competition
A huge well done to the two winners of the careers competition as part of the Life with Languages careers event a few weeks ago. Hannah Scott and Ethan Briggs put in a huge effort and found out the most information from the guests who attended about careers using their language skills. ¡Buen trabajo chicos!
Eco Committee
The Eco Committee are thrilled to announce that Musselburgh Grammar School has been awarded the Eco Schools’ Green Flag Award! This means we are recognised for all of the work we are doing to be more sustainable and eco friendly.
We are so proud of the work achieved so far and in such a short space of time. Let’s continue working to be a more sustainable school!
