HEAD TEACHER'S NEWSLETTER
And so it is Christmas….and what have we done? Almost a year over and a new one almost begun. And what a year it has been!
Full of twists and turns, Google classroom and online meetings where at least one person speaks while on mute, sanitiser and face coverings, bubbles and distancing. We have made it through and begin our Christmas break with increased restrictions due to a new Covid variant and have plans in place should we need to return to online learning after the break.
I know that the pandemic has taken its toll on us all in various ways, but I am very proud of how resiliently and creatively staff and young people have risen to the challenge of teaching and learning during Covid…….. it’s safe to say that we are all ready for the holidays!
Before I switch off the alarm clock and laptop, and turn on Home Alone, I would like to thank all my colleagues, parents, carers, young people and the wider school community for making me feel so welcome. It is an honour, privilege and pleasure to be your Headteacher.
For me, the pandemic has highlighted the importance of family, friendship, community and kindness: I hope that however you celebrate Christmas and with whomever you share it, you all have a lovely Christmas break and very happy New Year.
See you all in 2022.

Christmas Market 2021
The Christmas Market was a huge success (despite light rain) and feedback from the pupils has been outstanding. We are very proud of our National 5 Retailing class who organised this event alongside the Business Department. The S1 Digital Enterprise and S3 Business Management pupils had a great day, marketing and selling the products that they have spent weeks preparing for. The stalls were creative and we are delighted at the entrepreneurial skills that was displayed by the youngsters. Many other groups within the school participated; Young Enterprise, Eco Club, English Book Stall, Support for Learning and Inclusion; where all funds raised has gone towards Pupil Equity. Big thanks to all who attended and supported this event.
Virtual Christmas Concert
This year, we were very excited to have the opportunity to invite students from Edinburgh College’s Sound Production cohort to record a Virtual Christmas Concert. The student volunteers filmed, recorded and edited the concert featuring MGS performing ensembles. Performances include the Wind Band, Brass Ensemble, Junior/Senior combined choir, a Flute Quartet and a Bagpipe Trio. The Wind Band also featured special guests from Stoneyhill and Campie primaries. It’s been a tough time for the expressive arts and we are so proud of all the young people playing in the concert this year. Well done to everyone involved! The concert can be found on our YouTube Channel: http://www.youtube.com/c/MusselburghGrammarMusic
