HEAD TEACHER'S NEWSLETTER
It was the last Senior Phase parent’s evening for all our S6 pupils on Monday, and almost the end of their era. We are now all focused on finishing off course work, including assignments and portfolios, in preparation for SQA exams: attendance at school everyday is crucial to make the most of the remaining time.
It has been an incredibly cold week in an incredibly long month, but hopefully signs of spring in slightly longer days now. I hope you are all managing to stay warm and have something lovely planned for the weekend.

House assemblies this week were led by Charlie Devine, Head Pupil, and long standing member of Pupil Voice, Euan Allan, Mitchell Tuffin and Martha Bremner who updated their peers on what has been discussed over the past three pupil voice meetings.it’s not easy to stand up and preset in front of hundreds of your peers, and they spoke confidently and clearly- well done!
Mrs Walker is stepping back from Pupil Voice for the time being, and Mr Melvin and Ms Nisbet will be facilitating it until June.
Huge thanks to Mrs Walker for all her hard work increasing the membership and profile of the Pupil Voice team.

EmpowrU Mentoring
37 pupils this week began the EmpowrU mentoring programme. The students will take part in a 6 week block working with a mentor to expand their knowledge and skills of an industry and work on CV writing and interview techniques. Session 1 went extremely well and we look forward to seeing the pupils develop over the coming weeks. Massive thanks to all the volunteers who are mentoring our youngsters.
The Wrap Up, with Charlie & Eva
Welcome to another edition of ‘The Wrap Up, with Charlie & Eva’, we’d like to welcome everyone back to MGS and we hope everyone has had a restful, enjoyable holiday. We hope you’ve got back into your routines and adjusted back to being in school, now let's get into it!
This week has seen new pupil voice assemblies giving feedback on this academic year's first 3 first pupil voice meetings and everything discussed in them. A massive thank you and congratulations to Euan Thornton, Mitchell Tuffin, and Martha Bremner for doing a great job presenting the assembly and keeping everyone updated.
It's been a big start to the term for our school's S6s, including the last ever parents nights for the 2024 leavers. With the end of the academic year approaching quickly, please keep an eye out on your emails for an email from Mr Jordan about the yearbook awards vote so if you were voted for anything, you can confirm whether or not you’d like it to appear in the yearbook.
Recently the schools PV council has seen Mrs Walker step back from handling PV. Mrs Walker has been involved with PV at MGS and done a massive amount of work to get it where it is now, as well as to help many pupils become more active and confident in their voices. We truly cannot thank her enough for the incredible amount of work that she has done for MGS pupil voice and the impact she's had on our PV members. This also means we have some new teachers filling this role for the PV council, so we now welcome Ms Nisbet and Mr Melvin to the PV team and can’t wait to start working more with them!
Prom payments have been opened back up after the Christmas break, everyone planning on going will have to make sure payment has been made by the 31st January in order to secure your place at prom. Any issues you may have paying should be addressed ASAP by seeing Ms Holmes. Just as a reminder, due to a decision by the East Lothian council, prom will be an entirely alcohol-free event so keep that in mind when prom comes around!
Thank you for reading this week’s ‘The Wrap Up with Charlie and Eva’. We hope you’ve had a great start to the new term and have enjoyed your time off. See you next week!
