HEAD TEACHER'S NEWSLETTER
What a beautiful sunny week! Exams are over- well done to Ms Chisholm and our Chief Invigilator for a very smooth process- and we have been preparing for the change of timetable on Monday.
It is always lovely to catch up with former pupils and an ex S4 pupil popped in to see us yesterday. He has a job, is loving life and grateful for his experiences and support at the Grammar that helped him to succeed- he may not have felt it at the time but fully appreciates school now!
Whatever you are doing, have a lovely weekend.
Jodie Hannan

Staffing Update
Farewell to…
Mr Watt, Teacher of Physics, will be leaving at the end of term to take up a post at George Heriot’s in Edinburgh. The recruitment and selection process to fill this vacancy for an August start is underway.
Ms Scott, our Mussy does Strictly Glitterball champion, and Teacher of Chemistry, also leaves at the end of term to move to Williamwood High School. This post does not need to be recruited for.
MGS to Rosehill Transition
Timetabling a large school is no mean feat, but the logistics involved this year in timetabling for pupils remaining at MGS and also for Rosehill pupils with us for June but leaving in August, have been exceptionally challenging. Huge thanks to Ms Ferguson, Senior Business Officer, for her superhuman work in achieving this, as well as Mrs Watson, DHT Timetabling, and Mr Scott, DHT Pupil Support.
We held assemblies for all new S2 and S3 pupils yesterday and this morning to explain the changes of registration classes and the June timetable that Rosehill pupils will be following. All pupils have already received letters detailing the changes of registration classes.
Rosehill staff will be coming to the Grammar for two periods on Monday mornings and two periods on Friday mornings to teach the S2 and S3 Rosehill pupils as detailed below. This programme commences on Monday 5 June:
•Session 1: The Rosehill Way.
•Session 2-6: will be delivered by Curriculum Leaders based on their subject specialisms.
•Session 7: What will happen on pupils’ first days at Rosehill on Wednesday 16 and Thursday 17 August.
Rosehill pupils will be taught in their Rosehill class groupings for the remaining 28 periods of the week by Grammar staff, and have weekly assemblies on Friday mornings.
We know how excited the pupils moving to Rosehill in August are, and we will be very sorry to see them go. In the meantime, I have been very clear that they are still our Grammar pupils and part of our community.
Year Group Assemblies
Recent S2 and S3 assemblies focused on what our motto looks and sounds like in school and the importance of always trying our best and caring for others. Our motto sounds like using kind language and caring words to staff and pupils, and trying our best all the time. It looks like showing behaviours that make everyone feel safe and valued in school- both in class as well as at interval, lunchtime and on our way home.
I also emphasised the importance of being Ready, Respectful and Safe in school at all times to make sure that teachers can focus on creating the best possible climate for teaching and learning.
Summer Dance
As this session draws to a close, we are organising a Summer Dance for our current S1 and S2 pupils (new S2 and S3) as part of a final goodbye celebration to the pupils who will be leaving us to join Rosehill HS in August. There will be a disco, Ceilidh and also a cash Tuckshop (selling juice, crisps and sweets).
Tickets are available to purchase via iPay only and are priced at £3 each. We do have a capacity limit, so tickets are sold on a first come first served basis.
We can’t wait to have a night celebrating our amazing S1 and S2 with our first Summer Dance, which we know will be a great night to remember.
If you have any questions, please contact Mrs A McElhaney or Mrs M Donnelly.
Piping Success
Congratulations and our best wishes to Tom and Layla Ferguson who have been invited to play bagpipes, with the International Lone Pipers, as part of the D Day celebrations in Normandy next week.
An additional good luck to Tom who will then be heading on to Belfast, with Preston Lodge High school, to take part in the International Pipe Band Competition.
