HEAD TEACHER'S NEWSLETTER
We continue to make the most of being able to get together post Covid, and the Music Department held their first outdoor concert in the summer sunshine last night. It was a great success and then Sports Day at the Pinkie playing fields was a great way to end the week.
There were activities galore, games and competitions to suit everyone, music from the staff and student band, hot dogs, ice cream and a really lovely atmosphere overall. Thanks to all staff for running events, picking up litter and general enthusiasm! Very well done to Team PE for such a successful event, and to Ms Hall and Ms Hinselwood in particular.
Thanks also to local business for their generosity: George Anderson for donating a huge box of apples and to Lothian Hire Centre Limited for the free loan of generators.
And last, but certainly not least, it was lovely to spend time with our pupils out of school and I was so proud of their enthusiasm, behaviour and participation. Once all the points are counted up, I wonder who the winning House will be…?
Happy weekend.
Jodie Hannan
Key Dates in June

Wednesday 29 June: Celebration afternoon for the winning House

School Policies
You will be aware that we are tightening up on lateness, uniform and the use of mobile phones in school. To support the first two policies and improve general security in the building, the only entrance door to school in the morning from August will be the main entrance at the car park. The back door will not be open in the morning. It will still be available to use at break, lunch and the end of the day to leave school.
Uniform Policy
We are publicising the details of our uniform policy in the last few days of this term before implementation in August. The video below has been shown to pupils and emailed to them too. It contains all the information you need to know when buying uniform for the new term, and I thank you for your continued support of our dress code.
If we can support families with uniform please contact pupilsupport@musselburghgrammar.elcschool.org.uk
If you have high quality uniform that can be re used please drop it into school.
S6 Head Team Hustings
We were delighted to hear our eight candidates for the S6 Head Team positions tell the rest of the school body at assemblies for Moray, Grange and Caird their ideas about what they would like to do in the year to come. All have thought carefully about what they can bring to the school and community and what they can offer. They impressed everyone with their confident delivery and creative ideas.
Next stage: formal interviews. Good luck to you all!
RZSS Beyond the Panda Trip
Our Senior Spanish pupils who took part in the RZSS Beyond the Panda project had a fantastic visit to the Edinburgh Zoo this week. We had a great day visiting all of the animals they had been learning about in Spanish… and we even got to meet some of them up close too!
#andshecycles
This Tuesday a group of seven Musselburgh Grammar school girls got on their bikes to join in with #andshecycles Festival. #andshecycles is a national campaign aiming to address the barriers faced by teenage girls and young women when cycling. The campaign is inspired by and is working in collaboration with the Green Schools Ireland campaign of the same name.
The campaign has been co-developed by a group of young women (age 13-18) across Scotland from 14 different schools, youth groups and colleges, including Musselburgh Grammar School. Through a series of interactive workshops these young people identified the main barriers preventing them from choosing to cycle and developed action plans which aimed to address these barriers.
During the week beginning 20th June 2022 teenage girls and young women throughout Scotland are joining together to ride bikes in their local areas in celebration of the success of the #andshecycles campaign so far and to encourage even more girls to #jointhemovement. Our group of girls from Musselburgh Grammar School enjoyed a scenic cycle with their friends out to Portobello Beach, via Newhailes House. At Portobello, we joined together with another #andshecycles led ride from Tynecastle High School in Edinburgh and relaxed over lunch and ice cream at the beach before cycling back to Musselburgh. A fantastic day out and we hope it will be the start of many more female cycling activities and led rides with pupils from Musselburgh Grammar School.
If you are interested in being part of a cycle group please contact Ms Hoffman B16.
