HEAD TEACHER'S NEWSLETTER
Prelims have been going very smoothly this week and end on Friday 9 December. Well done to all pupils for all their hard work and preparation and for their part in following all expectations in exam venues.
Teachers’ professional learning is vital to improving pupils’ experience in school and we set time aside each term to share our knowledge. We ended our week with a presentation from the school’s Learning for Sustainability group about how important it is that we are all aware of sustainability goals and how easily it can be incorporated into all subjects, not just Geography and Science. Modern Studies and English have already successfully collaborated on an interdisciplinary project with pupils commenting very favourably on the links between the two subjects, so we look forward to more departments working in this way.
Best wishes for a happy weekend.

Kayla and Rory's Weekly Rundown
Hi guys, welcome back to another one of Rory and Kayla’s weekly rundowns. First off we hope all of our seniors are having a good first week of prelims and everyone is doing well. We have also been busy this week with prelims so sadly have not managed to get up to as much as we normally do. However we have started collecting some scrap paper of the Snow Ball!
Have a good weekend as we head towards Christmas and enjoy the colder days. See you all next week! :)
Prelim Arrangements
The prelim exams started on Monday 28th November and last until 9th December.
On Thursday 8 December industrial action means that the school is closed to all pupils except those S4-S6 pupils sitting prelims. With the exception of Music prelims, all other prelims scheduled to take place on Thursday 8th December will go ahead as planned. This includes prelims that were rearranged for individual students due to clashes in the timetable. Music prelims will take place on Friday 9 December. A letter has been sent to all families and students separately.
During the prelim diet, access to the school foyer will be limited. In the morning pupils will be allowed through the front doors between 8.15 and 8.30am only. Uniform check will take place as normal until 8.30am. Anyone arriving after that point should enter the school building via the white social space doors. Mrs Harvey will be in the social space to issue late slips and uniform slips after 8.30am. Only pupils with prelims will be able to enter school through the front doors after 8.30am.
For the remainder of the school day pupils will not be able to access the foyer (other than to see the nurse or office) – this includes entering and leaving the building through the front doors at break and lunch. Pupils should use the other doors to leave the building. The rules at the back doors still stand – these can be used as exit points; but not entry points at break and lunch.
Some classrooms/ corridors will have NO ENTRY SIGNS during prelim weeks. Pupils should pay attention to those and should not enter these areas.
S4/5/6 should be in classes on the days they do not have prelims. They will be engaging in tasks related to revision and subject learning. If they wish to use class time to study for other prelims that is at their teacher’s own discretion, however the emphasis is on productive work. No pupils will be allowed out to the library/ social space or other such spaces to self-study. We have a number of S4-6 learners who are not doing prelims. They will be completing relevant subject based tasks and/ or unit assessments and should be in classes as normal.

ARMY RESIDENTIAL – November 2022
Before I signed up for the Army residential I was quite nervous and felt out of place as I was the only female taking part. However, there was no need to worry as everyone was very nice, friendly and welcoming.
The part I enjoyed best was experiencing Army life, as in following their routines, getting up at the same time, also eating and exercising. This allowed me to know exactly what I was doing and when we were to do it.
The classroom lessons were also very interesting and I enjoyed them but the outdoor sessions were amazing. The Army made this experience very enjoyable by keeping everyone occupied and holding their attention and not letting us getting bored.
This was generally one of the best experiences I have ever had. I did not want it to end.
