HEAD TEACHER'S NEWSLETTER
Welcome back to a new term and I hope you all had a lovely February break.
Monday’s Inset Day was focused on all staff’s professional learning about the SCQF ambassador programme (Scottish Credit and Qualifications Framework) as part of our work to ensure our curriculum is meeting pupils’ needs.
House assemblies were then also focused on SCQF, and very ably led by Eleanor Green, Michael Doyle and Mitchell Tuffin, a few of our ambassadors.
Sill focused on professional learning, our CLs (Curriculum Leaders) worked collaboratively on how to develop and lead a learning culture within their faculties
We are now embarking on SQA assessments in areas such as Music, Modern Languages, Drama and Business Education, as well as continuing to complete all SQA courses in preparation for the SQA exams, so it is vitally important that all senior pupils attend all their classes everyday to maximise learning and teaching time.
Information will follow on our Easter Study and pre exam Immersion programme for S4-S6 pupils.
With best wishes for a lovely weekend.

SCQF Ambassadors
As part of our curriculum review and SCQF ambassador programme our pupil ambassadors spoke to staff during the Inset day on Monday and spoke to all pupils during house assemblies. Well done to Eleanor, Mitchell and Michael.
The purpose of these information sessions were to make staff and pupils aware of the ambassador programme but also to highlight the importance of a varied curriculum that suits the needs and interests of all learners. There was also discussion around the skills learned from new, alternative courses.
Below is a list of some of the new courses we offer at MGS.

Skills Development Scotland
Feedback on Skills Development Scotland’s (SDS) career service:
Parents and carers are key influencers over young people’s career ambitions and choices.
SDS work in close partnership with this school to support our young people to make informed career choices and they would value feedback from parents and carers on their services. You can do this by taking part in a short survey.
All responses are confidential and anonymous, and the results will be used to inform SDS services.
The survey should only take about 10 minutes to complete.
Education Appeal Parent Representative
Dear Parent,
We are recruiting parent representatives for this years’ Education Appeals. This would most likely only take up 1 full day around the end of May. There is no specific criteria for a parent rep, you just need to have a child within a school in East Lothian and you will never be asked to make decisions relating to the school your child attends.
If you are interested please contact Megan Scott, Committees Officer directly on mscott1@eastlothian.gov.uk or 01620 827514.
‘The Wrap Up, with Charlie & Eva’
Welcome back to another edition of ‘The Wrap Up, with Charlie & Eva’. There have been lots of exciting things happening this week as well as things to come.
Everyone has been stuck back in their work such as assignments and getting ready for practical exams. The overall exams are coming up very soon, so it is important to start revising. It is important to remember that there are lots of different ways to revise, so one size does not fit all. Here is a really good website with lots of different study techniques you can try out to see what works best for you: 10 Effective Study Tips and Techniques to Try This Year | USAHS If you are feeling stressed about your exams, then please do not hesitate to speak to your teachers about any concerns or worries, they will be happy to help.
Next week the medical society has their first meeting. This is a really interesting society to join if you are interested in going to medical school or would like a career in that field. This is being held by Dr Brown, so if you would like to join then make sure to go and speak to her.
For the S6s, if you have not done your yearbook photo then please get it done ASAP! There isn't much time left as they need to be sent away to be made.
We hope you have enjoyed your first week back after the break! We shall see you back at school for Monday.
