HEAD TEACHER'S NEWSLETTER
It was a short week in school but we packed a lot in! It was a pleasure to welcome P7 parents to school on Wednesday, and Thursday was Fright Night for the S1s.
It’s not until we have events such as these that we realise how much we’ve missed the buzz, vibrancy and connection with our community. Thanks to all pupils and staff for making both events so successful, and to parents for joining us.
I hope you’ve had a lovely weekend (with an extra hour) and it’s now approaching November- how did that happen?!
Jodie Hannan
Key Dates:
Dates: Thursday 3 November S1 Parents' Evening in school 5-7pm.
Staff:
Farewell, and thank you for his service, to Mr Wright who takes up a teaching post in Edinburgh.
Ms Haydock, Science teacher, will be teaching Mr Wrights classes until a teacher is appointed.
Kayla and Rory's Weekly Rundown
Welcome back to our weekly rundown! We hope everyone had some fun during the October week and enjoyed a well-deserved break.
As some of you may know this Thursday was Fright Night – the first one to be held for three years!
From an S6 perspective it was a lot of fun, and from talking to some of our S1 pupils it seems they enjoyed it as well. It was a great opportunity for us to raise some money for Dalguise (our S6 residential) and to welcome our new S1s to the school and let them bond as a year group. We hope all our S1s had a great time and didn’t get too scared on the tour!
Next Monday is Halloween and so we hope everyone enjoys whatever spooky fun you’ve got planned!

If you would like to wear yellow and blue on that day you might want to purchase a 'Ribbon for Ukraine' that has been made by MGS pupils. A group will be doing 'door to door' Monday-Thursday next week to sell ribbons to staff and pupils and another group will be selling ribbons in the foyer at break time on Friday. Suggested donation £1.

Pupils will be selling poppies in school next week so please bring a cash donation if you wish to purchase a poppy. In addition, a Remembrance Assembly will take place on Friday 11th November. Thank you.
Support for Learning
Horse Riding Therapy sessions at Muirfield have been going extremely well with all pupils now able to ride their horses confidently and easily manage to steer left and right. Below are some photos from this week's session.
Mr Davie managed to spend his Oct holidays with the Outward Bound Trust to gain training when delivering his Outdoor Learning Sessions at MGS. Well done to him.
Lego Therapy
This is becoming more and more popular throughout the school but we badly need more sets/models to build. If anyone has any full sets of lego at home that they would like to donate we would be very grateful and would definitely use them on a regular basis. We have lots of loose lego at present for some free play so we are only in need of full sets which pupils can build from start to finish using instructions. We know how rare these are to have after being built for the first time so anything that can be contributed would be very much appreciated. Below are some models we made recently.
MGS Christmas Fayre
Please add the date to your diaries - Saturday 10 December 2022 11 am - 1 pm. Miss Andrew’s N5 Retailing class are running this year’s Fayre as part of their course and all S1 Digital Enterprise and S3 Business Management classes will be making their entrepreneurial debuts, selling products they have made in order to make a profit! More details to come soon.
Burgh Barista
Our S5-6 pupils are currently learning how to be trained Baristas while gaining a National 5 Qualification. The school invested in state of the art equipment to make this happen and now pupils are running their own business as part of the course.
The Burgh Baristas will be offering hot drinks at the S1 Parents Evening and the Future Pathways event in the coming weeks.
Drinks range from £1.50 - £2, at this time we can only accept cash payments. It would be great to have your support and they make a very good cup of coffee!
Drinks on offer: Lattes (with syrups), Flat Whites, Cappuccinos, Americanos, Hot Chocolates, Mochas and also Tea. We have all milk alternatives available, too.
The Burgh Baristas look forward to serving you :)

Senior German trip to the University of Edinburgh
Today our Senior German pupils took part in a trip to the University of Edinburgh. They had a fantastic day learning about further study at university, life as a student and learning languages beyond school. All pupils were a credit to Musselburgh Grammar School and enjoyed getting the opportunity to interact with students and think about studying at university after school.
