HEAD TEACHER'S NEWSLETTER
We enjoyed a range of professional learning sessions on Monday’s Inservice day. These focused on our school improvement priorities of learning and teaching where a number of staff shared excellent learning and teaching strategies with us; curriculum: developing the range of courses we teach to ensure they meet what our pupils need; equity: how we make our school more inclusive and support the less advantaged young people in our school; attainment data: reviewing the targets we set in September and comparing to post prelim results, as well as the systems we have in place to monitor pupil progress.
Wednesday saw the Scottish Army Wind Band in school filling the Hall with music. Parents were invited in later that afternoon to hear their children play with the band and everyone thoroughly enjoyed the performance. Plans are already being made for their return in January 2024.
House assemblies this week have raised awareness of LGBTQ+ with today as a dress down to raise money for these charities
And finally, a number of staff and I are off to Dalguise for the weekend with S6- please pray it stays dry! I’m sure there will be lots of twitter updates to enjoy.
With best wishes for a lovely weekend.
Jodie Hannan

Pupil Voice - News Update
Two of our senior pupils participated in an online meeting with representatives from the SQA recently. Well done to Jamie and Lauren for giving their views from a pupil perspective on the impact of approaches to assessment last session.
Well done once again to Emma Hamilton in S5 who won the Pupil Voice Council run Artwork Competition which was part of our school refurbishment project.
Emma’s winning photograph has now been printed on a large scale, is up in our social space and looking amazing.
Well done to four of our senior Pupil Voice Council members Elsie, Isaah, Charlie and Owen, for leading assemblies before the February break promoting what Pupil Voice is and what we are doing within our school.
In addition to this, our Pupil Voice Ambassadors have linked with junior registration classes and are this week starting to visit them with Pupil Voice information packs and posters to be displayed in classrooms. All register classes will be issued with these packs to encourage wider involvement with Pupil Voice.
Any pupil can propose an agenda item for the Pupil Voice Council to discuss by emailing: mgspupilvoice@edubuzz.org
Creative Writing Workshop with Laura Hird
On Thursday a Scottish author paid a visit to the English Department and delivered a creative writing workshop to some of our Higher and Advanced Higher pupils.
Laura Hird had pupils consider where they come from, they made miniature film pitches and a variety of thought-provoking and entertaining prompts were used to inspire the creation of characters and storylines.
We are so grateful for her input and expertise, which our pupils will undoubtedly find useful as they work on their portfolios of creative writing and in their personal writing projects.
Food Poverty & Homelessness
S4 classes are trying to spread the word and create awareness of food poverty and homelessness the two charities are Fresh Start (Homelessness) and Trussell Trust (Food Poverty) and if you're able to make any donations that would be great even if it's just a tin of soup or a duvet set anything to help feed someone or help someone to start their home.
Anything is greatly appreciated
Please hand any donations to Miss Smeaton (D05) or Mrs Craig (D01) .

Employability Pathway 2023
Ms Chisholm and I held a meeting in school on Thursday Period 4 for pupils who are sitting two or fewer National 5 exams.
Due to this cohort not qualifying for study leave (as they are assessed throughout the year) we have organised a programme to run throughout May 2023.
The programme consists of a meaningful and relevant programme based on employability, work experience and workplace skills for them to take part in.
Due to absence and pupils who were missing on Thursday 23 Feb, we are running it again in the Assembly Hall, on Thursday 2 March. Period 4, 11:25 am.
Pupils should go to their P4 class, register then head to the Assembly Hall.
