HEAD TEACHER'S NEWSLETTER
It has been a lovely final morning with S6 pupils marking their school careers with mocktails, speeches and pizza and it’s the last newsletter from Em & Nic. I hope you’ve enjoyed reading all about their experiences over the year, and we’ll be selecting the next Head Team in June.
I hope that seniors take some time to recharge over the break and that the Easter revision classes help with exam preparation.
With best wishes for a relaxing and sunny Easter break.
All staff and pupils return to school on Monday 25 April.
Kind regards.
Jodie Hannan
Farewell to our S6 students
It must seem like only yesterday (for parents and young people alike!) that they were in S1, the smallest pupils in school, and now, after all the twists and turns of recent years, they are young adults and ready to fly the school nest.
We hope that their time at MGS has given them the confidence, determination, skills and knowledge to embark upon the exciting new chapter in their lives whatever that might be.
It has been a pleasure to be their Headteacher, even for the one short year that I have known them and I have been very impressed by their maturity, patience, good humour and hard work.
All MGS staff send them on their way not just with pride in what they have achieved over the past six years, but more importantly, proud of the wonderful young people they have become, and we look forward to hearing all about the brilliant things they will go on to do.
Go well and be happy.

Professional Development Award: Scottish FA Refereeing
I just wanted to give a special mention to our 11 candidates who took part in the inaugural Professional Development Award: Scottish FA Refereeing at MGS this year. This group of talented young people put in a tremendous effort and were very enthusiastic about the course from the start, which always helps make my job a lot easier. They have picked up many transferable skills as a result of the course. This includes, developing their personal resilience, confidence to make split-second decisions under pressure, communication skills, report writing, personal fitness levels and the ability to lead and manage small teams. We now have 11 candidates who have successfully passed the course and hopefully this cohort can be role models for future years and I wish them nothing but the best in whatever they do next. Hopefully this is just the start of a long and successful career in refereeing for them.

S3 Admin Blackpool Trip
Fantastic day yesterday with 67 S3 Administration pupils. After studying a unit on event organising last term, a trip they planned came together very successfully. The pupils were a credit to the school and it was a great way to finish this week.
Eco Week
We have explored sustainability this week and I want to say a massive thank you to everyone who has helped this week become a success! On Make the difference Monday we started collecting crisp packets which will all be sent to the Crisp Packet Project where they are made into homeless blankets and bivvy bags. On Tasty Tuesday we had a vegan bake sale where we raised £65 for local charities. Wellbeing Wednesday saw a little picnic on the back grass followed by a free to a good home stall on Thrifty Thursday. I am so proud of the excellent eco committee and all their hard work improving our environment and society!
Miss McDonald.
Medical
A reminder for S1 pupils to return their HPV vaccination forms as soon as possible to Mrs Harvey in the Medical Room. Thank you
Duty of Care
If pupils are feeling unwell, it is imperative that they all attend the Medical Room with Ms Harvey, who will contact parents/carers. Pupils should not text parents from their classroom and should not leave school without first attending the Medical Room, or the School Office if Ms Harvey is not available. This is to ensure pupils’ safety and wellbeing.
Thank you, Ms Harvey
Em & Nic's Not So Secret Diary
And just like that the time has come to say goodbye. We have so many memories at MGS some of which we will carry with us forever and some we would like to share with you all today as our final farewell.
One of our favourite memories at school was when we went on a trip to Madrid. Both of us took Spanish at National 5 so it was a great experience and an amazing opportunity to improve our Spanish speaking skills. We visited so many cool places during our time in Madrid, some being; the palace and the warner bros theme park. Below you will find some photos from the trip…
Another amazing experience we took part in recently was our food banks when we received a massive amount of donations in which we donated to the East Lothian Chicken Dinner Boxes. Everyone that took part did an incredible job and helped out so many families. We managed to do 2 food banks throughout the year and we really appreciated everyone who has helped out and donated!
We just wanted to thank all of the staff at MGS, especially our teachers who have helped us greatly over the years. The last couple of years haven’t been easy but we have all managed to get through them! We also want to say a massive thank you to Miss Holmes who has made our last day possible and the best it could be!
A huge thank you to all of you for taking the time to read our newsletters weekly! It has truly been an honour sharing our school experience with you this year and we hope that our successors do the same in years to come.
As we approach our final hours at MGS we will be reflecting on the last six years that we have spent here and appreciating the hard work it has taken us all to be in the position we are in today. We are really grateful for the opportunity we have been given as head pupils to ensure that our six years are given the send off they deserve and so rightfully will receive!
Today we’ve spent our last day as a year group celebrating and it has been amazing to see everyone for the final time. We received a welcome glass of non-alcoholic prosecco followed by speeches from Ms Hannan and the guidance staff. Afterwards we had pizza and we presented the awards given by teachers. We were also given the chance to say a few words and thank everyone for the year we’ve had.
To round off our newsletter today we just wanted to take this opportunity to wish our successors luck and everyone all the best for the future. It has been a pleasure working with all the staff and pupils at MGS this past year and we very much look forward to what the future holds.
Thank you very much MGS for everything you have done for us, we will miss you all!
Em & Nic
