HEAD TEACHER'S NEWSLETTER
I held year group assemblies on Monday to welcome all new S2- S6 pupils to this next stage in their school career. It was an opportunity to celebrate pupils’ many successes over the past year and look forward to making the most of this coming year. I emphasised the importance of being Ready, Respectful and Safe at all times and bringing the best versions of ourselves to school everyday.
Being Ready to Learn includes attending all classes, and on time as well as wearing uniform and not being distracted by mobile phones. We have already launched our lateness policy and procedures and have now finalised our uniform and mobile phone policies and procedures. These will be publicised to all pupils, families and staff in the last few weeks of June before implementing them on the first day of the new session in August. I very much appreciate all parents’ support with attendance, uniform and restricting mobile phone use in classes.
Wishing you a lovely sunny weekend.
Jodie Hannan

Mr Scott, DHT, and I were honoured to be invited to the celebration of the Musselburgh Silver Arrow competition, reputedly the oldest annual sporting trophy in the world, on Wednesday evening at Brunton Hall. It was a pleasure to meet more of our community and represent our school at such a prestigious event.
P7 Parents’ Evening
Thank you to all parents and carers who came along to our information session on Wednesday. It was lovely to have Julia Scott, Campie’s P7 tuba soloist, introduce the evening and the wind band ensemble, including P7 pupils coming to MGS next year play too. This year, P7 pupils from Campie and Stoney Hill have been rehearsing with the MGS Wind Band every Wednesday after school. They have been a fantastic addition to the group and will be joining our MGS pupil and performing at a Small Summer Concert on Thursday the 23rd, here at the school.
Sports Day
We are delighted to announce that we will have our Sports Day on Friday 24 June at Pinkie playing fields after a four year break! Mr MacDonald and PE colleagues are busy organising activities for staff and pupils: details to follow.
S6 Head Team Leadership
We were delighted to see so many students engaging with our induction sessions earlier this week and also to see applications coming in for Head Pupil positions. We are keen for students to show how they would take our key values of honesty, determination and respect forward in the school.
Some of the key duties and expectations will also be to set a positive example in the school, to assist staff and pupils in the school and to represent the school at events and functions. Specifics of the role are included in the application form which has been shared on Google classroom with all S6.
Please see below for key dates relating to this and other senior pupil positions in the school:
We hope to appoint to these positions before the end of term.
S4-S6 Pupils
We need to have all S4-S6 addresses updated by the 20th of June in order for your SQA Certificate to be posted out to your correct home address. If you are aware of address change over summer please either update it now with us or redirect your post. If you fail to do so -SQA will only reissue the certificate after the original gets returned by post and it may take a long time.

Active East Lothian’s Spotlight Award Winner
Congratulations to Mrs Orsi for receiving the Active East Lothian’s Spotlight Award for 16 years of dedication to our Active Schools badminton club. This term alone, Mrs Orsi has had between 30-40 pupils attending her sessions weekly. Where she has provided a safe place for pupils at Musselburgh Grammar School to get active, learn new skills, develop their performance, partake in competition, meet new friends, socialise and most importantly have FUN!
Well deserved Mrs Orsi, we appreciate all that you do for our young people!
S3 Bronze Duke of Edinburgh
A HUGE congratulations to our 17 Bronze Duke of Edinburgh pupils who completed their 2 day Qualifying Expedition. They navigated pathways through Carberry, Fa’side and Dalkeith Country Park over two days, enjoying excellent weather conditions. They cooked a nutritious breakfast of bacon rolls and pancakes on trangia stoves, and although restrictions prevented an overnight camp, the teams were still able to practice their campcraft by putting up tents in Lewisvale Park. All groups had an Aim for their expedition including keeping a photo diary, creating a playlist to reflect their experience and litter picking along the route. We are very proud of their achievements over the last year. Pupils are now in the process of getting their further 3 Sections (Volunteering, Physical Activity and Skill) signed off in order to achieve their full Bronze Award. Special thanks to Mr Valentine, Mr Brown and Miss Ferguson for their valuable assistance with the expeditions.
