HEAD TEACHER'S NEWSLETTER
We are well and truly in self evaluation and improvement planning season for next year, and spent several worthwhile hours last Friday afternoon gathering staff’s thoughts on what we do well and what we can do better. All this feedback will be factored into our planning, and sincere thanks to all pupils and parents who also completed our surveys.
Best wishes for a good weekend.

School Improvement Planning for Session 2023-24
Thank you to all Carers/Parents who took time out to respond to this survey – your opinions are really valuable. We are now in the process of reading through the responses and pulling together common themes, alongside the Pupil Voice survey results and staff contributions and will be using these to support our School Improvement Planning for next session.
A number of you have volunteered to be part of a Parent Focus Group which is fantastic and once we have clarity on where we need your input we’ll be in touch. Additionally over 16% of young people in the school volunteered to be part of the Pupil Focus Groups which is a brilliant number and a further 42% said “Maybe”. We very much value the views of our young people and I’m delighted to have such a high number willing to lead change in the school.
We will share our School Improvement Plan with you just prior to the summer break and share how your views have contributed to its formation.

S3 Blackpool Admin Trip 2023
Before Christmas all S3 Admin pupils undertook a curriculum unit of Event Management. Pupils were asked in groups to plan and carry out the relevant Admin tasks required to organise a trip e.g spreadsheets of finance, risk assessments, posters advertising, letter writing, research, itinerary etc. The pupils came with great packs and presentations of their plans and after a poll voted one of the trips to Blackpool. Summer Gargaro then took the lead working closely with me to put her plan into action. Summer’s account of the trip is below:
All the hard work has paid off planning this trip! 80 S3 Administration students travelled to Blackpool Pleasure Beach last Thursday 4th May. We all had the best time! During the day we went on all the roller coaster rides and tried out some of the food and drink the park had to offer. This trip was well worth the time and effort spent planning for it. I presume most of the S3’s that went on this trip have not experienced anything like this before and have never been on a school trip this AWESOME!
The S3 group were a credit to the school and all staff enjoyed the trip. Well done to Summer for her great communication and organisational skills.
Sports Mention
This week our Young Ambassador Rosie Livingstone signed a new deal with the Hibernian Women's Football club that will run until 2025.The incredible amount of work Rosie has put in the last few years to get where she is now, as well as keeping up to date with all her studies has been remarkable!!
Well done Rosie, we are all so proud!
Archerfield
On Wednesday 10th May, Mr Bissett and I took some of our young people to visit Archerfield House. Here they got to see all that Archerfield can offer them regarding opportunities after school, including careers in Hospitality, Health and Beauty, Greenkeeping and Marketing. They also got to spend time preparing their lunch with Chef Joe Queen and his apprentice Chefs in the Chef Training Kitchen. This was a fantastic opportunity for our young people and the aim of this trip was for them to feel inspired from a place like Archerfield and to start to think about how they too can achieve great things provided they work hard, listen to instructions and apply themselves. It really was a tremendous experience getting to see how a thriving working estate like Archerfield operates. A massive thank you once again to the whole team at Archerfield for being so welcoming and for being understanding and generous with our young people.
