HEAD TEACHER'S NEWSLETTER
Exams are almost over and study leave is drawing to a close. Next week is the last week of the current timetable before the new one starts on Monday 5 June and June is already looking incredibly busy with school and social events!
It felt very odd to type in the last day of school in June- I can’t quite believe we have only a few weeks left of this school year.
Fingers crossed for sunshine this weekend.

Farewell to ….
Mrs Allan in PE who leaves us today after 4 years for an amazing new teaching chapter in Australia!
Ms Carr, Science Technician, who takes up a new post at Rosehill next week.
We say a huge thank you for all their work with us, and wish them all the best for the future.
Welcome to…
Mr Neves Da Silva who joins us as Science Technician on Monday 5 June.
Summer Dance
As this session draws to a close, we are organising a Summer Dance for our current S1 and S2 pupils (new S2 and S3) as part of a final goodbye celebration to the pupils who will be leaving us to join Rosehill HS in August. There will be a disco, Ceilidh and also a cash Tuckshop (selling juice, crisps and sweets).
Tickets are available to purchase via iPay only and are priced at £3 each. We do have a capacity limit, so tickets are sold on a first come first served basis.
We can’t wait to have a night celebrating our amazing S1 and S2 with our first Summer Dance, which we know will be a great night to remember.
If you have any questions, please contact Mrs A McElhaney or Mrs M Donnelly.
SQA Exams
The SQA Exam diet finishes on Monday 29th May. This means that from Tuesday 30th May normal entry to school through the main front doors recommences for all pupils.
Thank you to pupils for their cooperation with arrangements during the exam diet which has allowed the transit/ assembly hall to be quiet areas for exam pupils.

Willie Innes Youth Games 2023
This week we attended The Willie Innes Youth Games (WIYG) with 71 of our S1 and S2 pupils. The WIYG is one of our most prestigious East Lothian Schools junior sporting events. Where we bring a selection of our sports teams and compete down at Meadowmill in a bid to win the WIYG Cup. This year Musselburgh Grammar entered the following teams: Golf, Badminton, Boys Basketball, Girls Basketball, Boys Football, Girls Football, S1 Boys Rugby, S2 Boys Rugby and S1 Girls Hockey and what a day it was! We could not be any more prouder of our young people. Their effort, team work, and positive attitudes on the day were remarkable! We may not have come home as the overall winners of the WIYG but we were crowned Golf Champions, and placed second in the Girls Basketball and S1 Hockey and third in the Badminton competitions!
We would also like to give a special mention to our S3 pupils Sophie Davidson and Finlay Duncan who came along as volunteers and umpired some of the hockey matches!
Congratulations to all our fabulous young people who competed!! A huge thanks to all the volunteers and staff who made the event run so smoothly! A brilliant day with lots of tremendous talent on display.
Sports Awards Evening 2023
All pupils who attend or have attended extra - curricular with us this year should have received a letter of invitation to our Sports Awards Evening by now. We ask that these are all completed and popped into Miss Hall’s post box outside A45 no later than Wednesday 31st May 2023.
Please note at this time, the invite is for pupils only. Should pupils be nominated for an award, parents/carers will receive confirmation over the next week or so, with the request for additional tickets. If you require any further information, please do not hesitate to contact our Active Schools Coordinator on jhall1@elcschool.org.uk.
Art Exhibition
‘Art=Effort!’
This week our young people who work in the Inclusion space had their artwork showcased in an exhibition at Edinburgh College, Granton Campus. The exhibition ran from 17th May-25th May and it was excellent to see their hard work exhibited in this way. On Thursday 25th May, we were welcomed to take part in an art workshop run by contemporary art practice HND at the college. The workshop was run by a second year student who is local to Whitecraig and consisted of learning about graffiti and tagging. It was a pleasure to work with Hubcap who curated and facilitated the exhibition and we already have plans for future exhibitions and collaborative work. A huge thanks to all our artists and Mr Bissett who have all worked hard over the year creating some inspirational pieces of art. Well done to our artists Damien Hendrie, Robbie Stevenson, Aaron Anderson, Lacey Voy, Caiyden Thomson, Ryan Finlay, Ross Carnegie, Codey Bowers, Conner Morgan, Rudi Dughan, Grace McGill and Roxi Veitch. The young people have also managed to raise just under £200 in sales from their art work and some of this funding will go towards new resources to help them develop their practice further for future exhibitions.
Bridge Centre Motorbike Project
We have started a new group on motorbikes for a 6 week course which will end on 27 June 23. The pupils were perfect ambassadors for the school, they were respectful, followed instructions and they all loved it.
First week at Haddington for H&S and team building tasks, next week they will be on the track.
Let’s not forget the last group, they were amazing and for all the years I have worked in partnership with BCMP we got 2 silver awards and 2 basic bronze awards, a massive achievement for all.
The group decided to swap the 2 wheels for 4 wheels on their last outing and they had a brilliant day (so did I).
