HEAD TEACHER'S NEWSLETTER
The first week of SQA exams have gone very smoothly and we hope that pupils are feeling confident about them. We are now coming into the last few weeks of timetabling in preparation for the change of timetable on Monday 6 June as well as reviewing our school improvement plan and thinking about our improvement priorities for next session.
There’s lots to be done as we try to tie up the loose ends of this session and plan for the next- there’s no such thing as winding down to the summer holidays in a school!
Enjoy the long weekend.

P7-S1 Transition Events
We are delighted to welcome P7 pupils into school this year instead of holding online events, and are also planning transition a bit differently to really support them settling into secondary school in August. The full two day visit is on 14th and 15th June but we have an additional three sessions over several weeks in May where our new S1 classes can meet Guidance teachers, Heads of House and class teachers and experience a number of different subjects. The first of these visits is next week on 3rd, 4th and 5th May .
Reminder: Immersion Programme for SQA Examinations
A range of supports are in place to help MGS students in preparation for SQA examinations. Our Immersion Programmes are sessions run to support students with revision in school in the days prior to examinations. The dates and times for all of these sessions can be accessed by clicking on the buttons below.
PSE Update - Anti Racism
At Musselburgh Grammar School we strive to support and celebrate all forms of diversity in our school community. We are lucky to have a large majority of pupils and parents/carers who share this vision.
Sadly, pupils in focus groups have shared experiences of hearing racist language from other pupils in school and in the community. A very small minority of pupils have called others racist names. We have an action plan in place to help tackle this issue working in partnership with Show Racism the Red Card.
Over the next few weeks, all pupils at MGS will take part in PSE lessons regarding racism and language. We will make links from this anti-racism approach to our MGS value of Respect. These sessions will be facilitated by guidance staff. If you have any questions/concerns or would like to be involved in future anti-racism work at MGS please contact pupilsupport@musselburghgrammar.elcschool.org.uk.
S4 Spanish - RZSS ‘Beyond the Panda’ Project
Over this year, the S4 Spanish Employability group have worked together with Edinburgh Zoo and the Royal Zoological Society of Scotland on their ‘Beyond the Panda’ project. As part of this project, 30 of our S4 Spanish pupils translated information about animals from English into Spanish, recorded extracts in Spanish that have been published on the Edinburgh Zoo website and created a Spanish game in collaboration with RZSS to educate pupils about the animals in Edinburgh Zoo. All pupils worked together as a team, and put their Spanish skills into practice to create fantastic resources to be used by our partner organisations. Pupils have worked incredibly hard on this project, and been a credit to the school. If you would like to see all of their hard work, go to: https://learning.rzss.org.uk/course/view.php?id=21 and click on the ‘Giants’ section of the website.
¡Bien hecho chicos!
