HEAD TEACHER'S NEWSLETTER
It was another busy and productive week in school. Our review team were very impressed by how keen all staff and pupils were to engage with them, and very much enjoyed speaking to them and visiting our school, commenting on how calm and purposeful the learning environment was. We will share the findings with the wider community in due course once the report is finalised.
I hope you enjoy this beautiful autumnal weekend, however you are spending it.
Jodie Hannan

MacMillan Cancer Fundraising
Well done to Rebecca Ritchie, Caird House Captain, for raising over £750 for this worthwhile cause last week.
Biology Week 2022
This week has been Biology Week across the UK and we have participated in our own way by showcasing work and introducing our department over on our Twitter page.
Monday was #MessyMonday and we showcased some of our Art meets Biology:
Alix in Advanced Higher with her take on the Red Queen Hypothesis:
Mr Natta’s S3 class created play doh cells:
Miss Mitchell’s National 4 class created their own adaptations:
National 5 classes have been making energy pyramids:
Next up we had #TearItUpTuesday where we shared images from our recent dissections such as exploring fish organs to identifying the different chicken tissue types:
For #WhoAreWeWednesday we all shared a little bit of our backgrounds and journey into teaching:
For #TardigradeThursday Dr Brown’s S3 class went on a Moss Safari on the hunt for the cutest microorganism - the Tardigrade (also known as the water bear or the moss piglet). We squeezed some moss and Layla and Baillie were lucky enough to find one! (See the twitter page for the video!)
And finally we finished the week with #FunFactFriday where we are all sharing our favourite biology fact:
Miss Mitchell: Did you know that lungs are the only organs to float on water?
Miss Woodhead: If you unravelled & laid out all the DNA in your body from end to end, it would stretch 10 billion miles, reaching beyond Pluto’s orbit.
Dr Brown: Biologists name things anything they want! There is a gene called Sonic Hedgehog and there is even a type of horsefly named after Beyonce as its golden rear end was deemed to be ‘bootylicious’ the Scaptia Beyonnceae.
Mr Natta: There is an extinct species of sloth that used to be 7m tall and weighed over 7 tonnes/6350 kg (an average adult weighs 70kg).

It is week 4 of the Superpower Agency already! S2 pupils have been developing character profiles based on their peers.

Congratulations to our F1 in schools team who competed in the Scottish division this week coming in 8th. There was only 0.1 seconds separating the group which is a fantastic achievement for the team. Well done to all and for Miss Trestrail for the support along the way.
Pupil Voice
The Pupil Voice Team received a fantastic number of applications to join the Pupil Voice Councils for this session. It was great to read all the forms, meet everyone and hear a sharing of thoughts and opinions. Senior pupils led the group interviews, before making their final selections and we are delighted to say that our Councils have now been finalised. Congratulations to everyone involved in this process. Meetings will start after the October break. Photographs of the Team will be placed on our noticeboard outside the school office.
In addition to our Junior and Senior Councils we have also selected a number of pupils to be Pupil Voice Ambassadors in the hope of engaging even more pupils in Pupil Voice within MGS.
The Team also plans to re-introduce open Pupil Voice Council meetings that any pupil can attend. Watch this space!
