HEAD TEACHER'S NEWSLETTER
At my House assemblies this week I reflected that it has been a year since I was appointed Headteacher of our school - how time flies! My pride and privilege in the role, and commitment to take us from ‘good to great’ is stronger than ever. I reiterated my vision and pledge that MGS will be the best possible learning environment for all of our young people and the importance of our values and team work in achieving this.
With best wishes for a peaceful weekend.
Jodie Hannan
Staffing
Welcome back to Mrs K Allan and Mrs C Holme who return to PE and Modern Languages respectively on Monday 4 April after maternity leave.
Key dates
Friday 8 April: last day of school for S6 pupils and of term for all. We have a programme planned for our S6 to celebrate their time at school.
Monday 11- Friday 22 April: Easter revision classes in school- please view the programme on the app.
Monday 25 April: all pupils and staff return to school for the summer term.
Wednesday 27 April: SQA exams and study leave begins for S4-S6 pupils.
Water bottles
Please can parents ensure that their child has a water bottle that they can refill at the water fountains throughout the day. This avoids long queues and time out of class at the Medical Room for a cup of water.
Reminder: Study Support for SQA Examinations
A range of supports are in place to help MGS students in preparation for SQA examinations. Our Immersion Programmes are sessions run to support students with revision in school in the days prior to examinations. These are in addition to the ongoing Study Support sessions running in school and our Easter Revision Programme. The dates and times for all of these sessions can be accessed by clicking on the buttons below.

S1/2 Spring Clean Scotland
The 21st of March marked the beginning of Keep Scotland Beautiful’s Spring Clean Scotland campaign. This is a month-long campaign that is designed to encourage people living in Scotland to organise and clean up their communities. So, our S1 and S2 pupils have been doing exactly that! Between the 21st of March and the Easter Break, each class will take part in a lesson that involves picking up litter, learning about the impact litter has on the planet, coming up with solutions to deter people from dropping litter in our school and making collective pledges to take action against littering in our school community. Here are some action shots from this week and last!
EAL Club
MGS Library
Every Monday Lunchtime
Mrs Dreon-Goold started a club which is open to pupils for whom English is a second language at home. New touch screen laptops with a variety of educational sites to practise English or complete homework will be available. This is also an opportunity to engage in multicultural discussions. Don’t forget to bring your lunch!
Craft Club
As Miss Nicoll is leaving Craft club will be suspended after Easter until a new Teacher is able to take over the club.
It has been so wonderful to see all your amazing creations, hearing your great singing and watching your confidence grow. You will all be dearly missed and I hope you all keep creating.
Medical
A reminder for S1 pupils to return their HPV vaccination forms as soon as possible to Mrs Harvey in the Medical Room. Thank you
Em & Nic's Not So Secret Diary
Happy Friday everyone! What a busy week it has been.
We wanted to remind you that as we near the end of the school year, the 8th of April will be our last day. We will continue to publish our newsletter for the next two weeks but in the upcoming weeks we will begin to incorporate some memories and photos from our time at school.
On Wednesday we will have the opportunity to take some pictures in uniform as a whole year group hopefully outside. Please wear your school uniform as this will look good for the leavers pictures!
This week we finalised the plans for our last day of school on Friday 8th April. The day will begin at 10:20 where we will be in the gym hall to receive a welcome non-alcoholic mimosa followed by speeches from Ms Hannan and the guidance staff. We will have a photo area for pictures and hopefully our leavers hoodies will be here. After the speeches we will get pizza and there will be awards given by teachers. We are also very lucky to be given the chance to speak and thank everyone for the year we’ve had! After the bell goes we will head out to the grass at the back where there will be some games and another opportunity for teachers to come and say goodbye. We hope everyone has an amazing day!
Due to COVID the school is unable to host a prom for S6 so we have organised one ourselves. We are looking for 5 parent volunteers to assist with the prom so that it can take place. You will receive a three-course meal and a welcome drink at no cost. It will take place on Thursday 9th June 2022 from 7pm. Please get in touch with us if you are interested in helping out: mmccrorie@edubuzz.org
Just another little reminder to say if you have not already done so please go download our school app as it is now LIVE on the app stores to keep up with the latest news in and around school.
Again as always thank you to all students for abiding by the guidelines and continuing to wear our face coverings throughout the building and applying hand sanitizer at the appropriate times. We really appreciate you going to these lengths to not only keep ourselves safe but also our staff and families at home too.
See you all next week!
Em & Nic
