HEAD TEACHER'S NEWSLETTER
Dear Musselburgh community,
We marked Holocaust Memorial Day on Thursday with a poignant message from RMPS staff and pupils. We remembered the millions who were persecuted and killed during WW2 simply for who they were, and also took time to think of all the genocides that have taken place since then, that have destroyed families and communities across the world. This Day brings home how important it is to respect our differences and be kind to each other, values we hold dear in our school.
Enjoy your weekend.
MGS School App
Many thanks to those who have already downloaded the app. We have been pleased to see such high numbers of parents and carers using it. Following the February break, we will be using the app to communicate whole school and year group information, rather than group call messages. A reminder of how to download the app is outlined below.
Click on the app store links below or search for ‘School App for Parents’.
Apple App Store: https://apple.co/2Gvy17w
Google Play Store: http://bit.ly/2uZIrGf
A green app named ‘School App for Parents’ will appear. Download this app.
Once the app opens, search for ‘Musselburgh Grammar School’
You may be asked to receive notifications from the app, accept this so you can receive messages from the school via the app.

MGS Burns Day Celebrations
Thanks to Summer in S2 for sharing her excellent highland dancing with us earlier in the week to celebrate Burns Day. You can watch her performance in the video below.
School Lockers
As we continue to progress with our school refurbishment we are now at a stage that all school lockers will be emptied and assessed for suitability.
We are aware that some pupils may have belongings in a locker. I would ask that all pupils with access to a locker, remove their belongings and return the key to the office by February the 11th.
This is important as all lockers will be removed over the February break.
We will communicate with pupils about the new locker system after this point and ensure any pupil who needs a locker has access to one.
Thank you in advance,
Mrs Ormerod

Duty of Care
If pupils are feeling unwell, it is imperative that they all attend the Medical Room with Ms Harvey, who will contact parents/carers. Pupils should not text parents from their classroom and should not leave school without first attending the Medical Room, or the School Office if Ms Harvey is not available. This is to ensure pupils’ safety and well being. Thank you, Ms Harvey
Medical - S3 and S4 Vaccinations
A reminder that Polio Diphtheria vaccinations for S3 and S4 pupils (and pupils catching up) will take place on Tuesday 8th February. Pupils should see Ms Harvey if they have any queries. Thank you.
Em & Nic's Not-So-Secret Diary
Good afternoon everyone! We're back with all the latest pupil news. Isn't it amazing how quickly this week has gone? We believe it has! We've had a really busy week and are looking forward to relaxing during the weekend.
UCAS applications were due on Wednesday and we hope everyone has already submitted theirs and is awaiting offers. We've heard people discussing the offers they've received and where they want to study. Congratulations to everyone who has been accepted into university and good luck to those who are still waiting.
Many S6 students have been working on dissertations and portfolios for their Advanced Higher classes and everyone has been working hard to prepare for exams. We want to remind everyone of the after-school study support that teachers provide. If you do need help in any of your classes then please don’t hesitate to speak to your teacher who would be happy to help.
Again, as always, thank you to all students for abiding by the guidelines and continuing to wear our face coverings throughout the building and applying hand sanitiser at the appropriate times. We really appreciate you going to these lengths to not only keep ourselves safe but also our staff and families at home too.
Have a lovely weekend and we will see you all next week!
Em & Nic
