HEAD TEACHER'S NEWSLETTER
The excitement for the Dalguise S6 residential has been mounting all week and they are now all safely enroute for the Perthshire countryside with multiple cans of shaving foam and an array of fancy dress costumes.
I have a serious case of FOMO as I’m unable to go with them this year but am looking forward to hearing about all their adventures.
I hope you enjoy your weekend as much as I think they will enjoy theirs!
Jodie Hannan

Farewell to Mrs Coyle in Maths who moves to a promoted post next week, and to Mr Newlands, Science Technician, who moves to a new role in Edinburgh. We thank them for their service to MGS and wish them all the best.
Mrs Coyle’s permanent part time role is currently advertised nationally.
Farewell to Ms Craigie and Mrs Watson, DHTs, who leave us for exciting new adventures outside education. It has been an absolute pleasure having them on our MGS team for so long (28 years and 10 years respectively) and we will miss them.
Welcome to Mrs Kivlichan, who takes up the acting (temporary) DHT and Head of Moray House role, and to Ms Ryan, who takes up acting (temporary) DHT and Head of Caird House next week. They will be a great asset to Senior Leadership and the wider school team.
A goodbye from Ms Craigie
I’d like to say goodbye and thank you to all the young people, families and staff in Musselburgh Grammar before I leave for a new adventure outside of school life. It has been a privilege to work in this school for 28 years and I have many, many fond memories of pupils, of time in the English classroom, of school trips, and of the incredible daily interactions which come from working in a busy comprehensive school.
I wish all our families and staff the very best for wherever life takes you next.
Ms Craigie

MGS Parents WhatsApp channel
Parent Council have started a WhatsApp channel! We know not everyone uses Facebook anymore and we’re all moving away from X so this is a great way to stay in touch but What are WhatsApp Channels?
WhatsApp Channels are a new way to get updates straight to your phone – a bit like following a page on Facebook, but simpler and more private. When you join a channel, you’ll receive announcements and updates in a one-way feed (so no chat noise or reply chains). Your phone number isn’t shared with anyone else in the channel, and you can choose to follow or leave at any time.
Our channel is called MGS Community Voice. We’ll use it to share reminders about meetings, highlight school news, and let you know about opportunities to get involved. It’s a quick, easy way to stay connected without adding to your inbox.

Monthly Attendance Updates
From September, a monthly update will now go out to all families with the aim of improving the effectiveness of our communication regarding school attendance.
We currently report on attendance twice a year, within pupil’s tracking report.
We recognise that regular communication may be more helpful to pupils, parents and carers.
This update will include:
Your child's overall and monthly attendance percentages
As well as overall and monthly unexplained absences
We understand that there are times when young people do require time off school and please remember that the school is always here to help.

EMSFA League Results:
This week we had two teams competing in their respective EMSFA Leagues for the school.
It was a nail-biter on the field as our U18 team pushed to the very end, but ultimately just missed out on the win, finishing with 2–3 in a close game against Newbattle. With standout plays and undeniable effort, the team showed heart and determination that fans can be proud of.
Last night, our U14 team put in a committed performance in their recent fixture against Ross High. Despite the final scoreline of 0–7, the players showed great effort, teamwork, and resilience throughout the game. They continued to battle until the final whistle and gained valuable experience that will help them grow stronger for future matches. The team’s positive attitude and sportsmanship were clear highlights of the day.
A special thank you goes to our future leaders, Blair Oliver and Lewis McIntyre, who stepped up to support the team and rose to the coaching opportunity brilliantly. Their leadership, encouragement, and enthusiasm were truly appreciated by players and staff alike.
Thea and Lois Lead the Way at East Lothian’s Fit 4 Girls Programme:
We’re proud to share that Thea Cooke and Lois Cunningham recently represented our school at the East Lothian Fit 4 Girls programme — an inspiring event that brought together students from secondary schools across the region.
The day focused on promoting and improving female participation in sport and physical activity. Thea and Lois actively took part in discussions, sharing their own sporting experiences, exploring the challenges girls face in staying active, and collaborating on potential solutions.
As part of their next steps, Thea and Lois will now begin developing a plan or initiative within our school to address the needs identified during the programme. Their enthusiasm and leadership will play a key role in shaping a more inclusive and supportive environment for girls in sport.
We look forward to seeing the positive impact of their work in the coming months!
