This hilt style is unique to the manufacturer "Cook & Brother" and was produced during the US Civil War for the confederacy. The solid brass hilt has wrap around ribs and a bird's beak pommel. There is a forward swept finial on top of the muzzle ring and the lower quillion is forward swept. It is very similar in to Hilt Type #2 but the bar bell shaped press stud spring is unique to this hilt style. Multiple variations in blade dimensions, muzzle ring diameter and hilt finish can be found.
