9 - Diorite

Hello friends, Welcome to the Rock Repository at the Department of Geology, Shivaji Science College, Nagpur.

I am Diorite, an intermediate plutonic igneous rock having coarse grained texture. I am formed when a coastal convergence occurs. I contain alkali feldspar, quartz, hornblende,  biotite mica, and olivine. In India I am found in Annantpur Andhra pradesh, Junagadh and Kutch region in Gujrat, Keonjhar and Kharia region in Odisha, Ajmer in Rajasthan  etc. I am mainly used as a dimension stone, Curbing, cemetery markers and crushed rocks.
