63 - Chlorite

English

Hello friends, Welcome to the Mineral Repository at the department of geology, Shivaji science college, Nagpur. I am Chlorite, a versatile mineral with a vibrant green hue that sets me apart. My name originates from the Greek word "chloros" meaning green, a fitting description for my distinctive color. Found in metamorphic rocks around the world, I am a common presence in the Earth's crust, forming through the alteration of other minerals like biotite and hornblende. In India, I can be found in various regions, especially in areas with extensive metamorphic activity. States like Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, and Himachal Pradesh host deposits where I am often discovered. The lush greenery of these regions reflects my own verdant appearance. My uses are as diverse as my distribution. While I may not be as well-known as some gemstones, I have valuable applications. In the industrial world, I am prized for my ability to absorb liquids and gases, making me useful in filtration systems. My presence in pottery and ceramics enhances their strength and resistance to heat. Additionally, I am a component in some cosmetics and skincare products, appreciated for my soothing and purifying qualities. Thank you for visiting.
