Hello friends, Welcome to the Fossil Repository at the Department of Geology, Shivaji Science College, Nagpur
I am an Ammonite from the Stephanocera species, a fascinating creature from ancient times. I belong to the Animalia kingdom and the Mollusca phylum, just like modern squids and octopuses. My kind, the Stephanocera Ammonites, were known for our elaborate shell structures found in oceans long ago.
My shell, with its prominent ridges and intricate chambers, was crucial for my survival. It provided strength and helped me float in the water.
You can recognize my genus, Stephanocera, by the ribbed shell decorated with spines or nodes along the outer whorls. These features likely helped protect me from predators and aided in swimming. We thrived during the Mesozoic Era, especially during the Jurassic and Cretaceous periods.
You can find fossils of my kind on different continents, giving scientists important clues about ancient environments. From Europe's shores to the depths of North America's seas, remnants of Stephanocera Ammonites have been discovered. According to fossil records, my species flourished around 150 to 65 million years ago, towards the end of the Mesozoic Era.
Thank you for visiting.
