Hello friends, Welcome to the Rock Repository at the Department of Geology, Shivaji Science College, Nagpur.
I am Granite Porphyry , an Acidic hypabyssal igneous rock having porphyritic texture. I am formed due to sudden cooling of partially molten rocks. I contain more than 70% silica in form of Quartz, K-Feldspar , muscovite and biotite as dominant minerals, along with which Ca-Feldspar and Amphiboles like Hornblende can be observed. In India I am found in Bundelkhand, Udaipur, Malanjkhand, Singhbhum, Rairangpur, Mayurbhanj etc. I am mainly used in pavements, flooring, tabletops, tiles, wall cladding, bathrooms etc. I am also used in jewellery. Thank you for visiting.
