35 - Khondalite

English

Hello friends, Welcome to the  Rock  Repository at the Department of Geology, Shivaji Science College, Nagpur.

I am khondalite, a type of metamorphic rock that is primarily composed of pink to reddish-pink orthoclase feldspar, quartz, and mica minerals. My name comes from the Khondalite Group of rocks found in the Eastern Ghats region of India, where I am commonly found. You can often find me in regions with a history of regional metamorphism, where tectonic forces and deep burial have caused rocks to undergo significant changes. These regions may include mountain ranges, plate boundaries, or areas with geological faults and fractures.

As a building material, I am valued for my durability, resistance to weathering, and attractive appearance. Architects and builders use me for flooring, countertops, and decorative purposes, taking advantage of my unique coloration and texture.

Thank you for visiting.
