Hello friends, Welcome to the Fossil Repository at the Department of Geology, Shivaji Science College, Nagpur.
I am Conus, a member of the Phylum Mollusca and the Kingdom Animalia, boasting a distinctive morphology centered around my conical shell, from which I derive my name. This shell, characterized by its smooth, glossy surface and intricate patterns, serves as an efficient disguise in the diverse habitats I inhabit. One of my most notable features is my venomous harpoon-like radula ribbon-like structure adorned with rows of teeth, which I use to capture prey. This venom is potent and aids in immobilising or killing my prey, typically small marine organisms such as fish, worms, or other molluscs.
My presence extends across tropical and subtropical regions worldwide, where I can be found dwelling in an array of marine ecosystems, including coral reefs, rocky shores, and sandy bottoms. I emerged in the Eocene epoch, which began approximately 56 million years ago.
