7 - Granite

Hello friends, Welcome to the Rock Repository at the Department of Geology, Shivaji Science College, Nagpur. I am  Granite, an Acidic plutonic igneous rock having coarse grained texture. I contain more than 70% silica in the form of Quartz, Plagioclase Feldspar, muscovite and biotite as dominant minerals, along with which K-Feldspar and Amphiboles like Hornblende can be observed. In India I am found in Tamil Nadu, Rajasthan, Karnataka, Odisha, Gujrat, Andhra pradesh, Uttar pradesh etc. I am mainly used in pavements, flooring, tabletops, tiles, wall cladding, bathrooms etc. I am also used in jewellery.  I was used in Construction of many monuments, temples and gravestones like Brihadeeswara temple.
