6 - Dolerite

Hello friends, Welcome to the Rock Repository at the Department of Geology, Shivaji Science College, Nagpur. I am dolerite , a basic hypabyssal igneous rock having coarse grained texture. I am formed formed in dikes, sills and relatively small, shallow igneous bodies. I contain labradorite,  Augite, Biotite, Pyroxene,  Magnetite etc. In India I am found in deccan traps, Dharwar Craton, Chaibasa Jharkhand etc . I am mainly used in construction of roads, railroads, foundation of buildings, dams and Levees. I am Known as a road rock. Thank you for visiting.
