Hello friends, Welcome to the Mineral Repository at the Department of Geology, Shivaji Science College, Nagpur.
I am chalcopyrite, a copper iron sulphide mineral. I have a brassy yellow colour that tarnishes to various iridescent shades of blue, purple, and green. I have massive and granular forms and show metallic lustre. I have a greenish- black streak. I have a high copper content of 34.5%. I am commonly found in hydrothermal veins, replacement deposits and disseminated in igneous rocks. I am the most important ore of copper and mined for my copper content. I am used as a gemstone or in jewellery due to my attractive colour and metallic lustre. In India, I am deposited in Bihar, Singhbhum district, Rajasthan, Madhya pradesh, Karnataka. Thank you for visiting.
