Hello friends, Welcome to the Rock Repository at the Department of Geology, Shivaji Science College, Nagpur. I am basalt, a basic volcanic igneous rock having fine grained texture. I contain Calc-alkali feldspar, olivine, pyroxene as dominant minerals, along with Biotite and Amphiboles like Hornblende and Augite can be observed. The magma in which I am found has low viscosity and can flow till large distances. In India I am found in the deccan region which is the largest volcanic province in the world, 2000 m succession of flat lying flows of basalt covering over 5,00,000 km2 of area. I am mainly used in Construction industries in the form of crushed rocks, concrete aggregates, rock wool or bars, tiles and columns. I am also used in the form of fibers and plastic pipers. Thank you for visiting.
