English

Hello friends, Welcome to the Mineral Repository at the Department of Geology, Shivaji Science College, Nagpur.

I am Pyrolusite, also known as manganese dioxide. I appear as black or dark grey mineral with a metallic lustre. I am a hard ore mineral and I leave a black streak when scratched on a hard surface. I am commonly found in hydrothermal veins and as well as in sedimentary deposits. I am a vital ore of manganese. I am used in the production of glass to remove colour impurities. In the chemical industry I serve as a catalyst in various oxidation reactions.

In India I am found in states of Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Goa,  Maharashtra and Rajasthan.  Thank you for visiting.
