Hello friends, Welcome to the Mineral Repository at the Department of Geology, Shivaji Science College, Nagpur.
I am Agate, a type of chalcedony known for my striking banded patterns and vibrant colors. Geologically, I form in cavities within volcanic rocks, such as basalt, through a process called precipitation. Over time, layers of silica-rich solutions deposit on the cavity walls, creating the characteristic banded patterns seen in agate.
Found worldwide, I come in a wide array of colors and patterns, with each specimen being unique. My bands may display hues ranging from earthy browns and reds to vibrant blues, greens, and purples, making me highly sought after for ornamental purposes.
In the realm of jewelry and lapidary arts, I am prized for my beauty and versatility. Craftsmen cut and polish me into cabochons, beads, and other decorative items, showcasing my intricate patterns and vibrant colors in necklaces, bracelets, and other jewelry piece
Thank you for visiting.
