Hello friends, Welcome to the Rock Repository at the Department of Geology, Shivaji Science College, Nagpur. I am charnockite,  a Basic plutonic igneous rock having coarse grained texture. I am formed by recrystallization at high pressures and moderately high temperatures. I contain Hypersthene, Biotite, Feldspar, Hornblende, Micas, Muscovite or Illite, Olivine, Plagioclase, Pyroxene, Quartz. In India I am found in St. Thomas Mount, Chennai and South Chingleput, Tamil Nadu. I am mainly used in Construction industries. I am the best example of historical rock as I was used in Construction of many monuments like Sri Padmanabha Swami  temple, Mahabalipuram temple, Vivekananda and Thiruvalluvar memorials, Job Charnock's tombstone etc. Thank you for visiting.
