33 -  Slate

English

Hello friends, Welcome to the  Rock Repository at the Department of Geology, Shivaji Science College, Nagpur.

I am slate, a metamorphic rock known for my fine-grained texture and distinctive foliation. My mineral composition primarily includes clay minerals such as mica and chlorite, along with quartz and sometimes calcite or dolomite. You can often find me in regions with a history of tectonic activity, where the intense pressure and heat necessary for my formation occurred deep within the Earth's crust. These areas may include mountain ranges, where tectonic forces have pushed sedimentary rocks to great depths. As a building material, I am highly valued for my durability, low water absorption rate, and resistance to chemicals and weathering.

Thank you for visiting.
