42 - Feldspar Plagioclase

English

Hello friends, Welcome to the Mineral Repository at the Department of Geology, Shivaji Science College, Nagpur.

I am Plagioclase Feldspar, a mineral recognized for my extensive occurrence and diverse industrial applications. Unlike my tabular cousin, my crystal structure typically forms in blocky or prismatic shapes, distinguishing me within the feldspar family.

Geologically, I am prevalent in both igneous and metamorphic rocks, frequently found alongside minerals like quartz and mica. You can spot me in various geological formations worldwide, spanning continents.

Industrially, I'm a valuable asset in ceramic production, contributing to the strength and stability of products such as tiles and sanitaryware. Furthermore, I enhance the quality of glass by reducing melting temperatures and improving transparency and resilience. In addition to ceramics and glass, I play a role in abrasives manufacturing and serve as a filler in paints, plastics, and adhesives. Moreover, I find application in some toothpaste formulations, contributing to dental hygiene.

Thank you for visiting.
